Hix's Guiding Activity

Guiding Questions: How do I protect myself from being cyberbullied?

Guiding Activity: Student groups brainstorm ways to protect themselves when using social networking sites, emailing, searching the web, and texting, then search the Internet for ways. They will create a comic strip illustrating the ways using Microsoft Word. The comic strips will be displayed around the school. A few comic strips may be uploaded to the Wiki site for the class.

Student Instructions: Students will be divided into groups of 3 students and they will brainstorm ways they think you can protect oneself when using social networking sites, emailing, searching the web, and texting. A police officer will speak to the class about the severity of cyber bullying and how to protect oneself. They will then search the Internet (using the guiding resources below) for ways and find information to back up their brainstorming thoughts using the websites provided. As a group the students will then create a comic strip that illustrates the ways to protect oneself using Microsoft Word. The comic strips will be displayed around the school for others to observe.
